"Optimum" Bowel Function

So, yesterday I did the shopping and at Costco I've been seeing this organic cereal that I've been wanting to try. It's called "Optimum" and it's blueberry cinnamon flavored, mmm. It's got bran, flax seed, low carbs, and 1/3 of your daily fiber, good stuff, right? Finally I gave in and bought it. I came home and had a bowl for lunch. That's all I had for lunch. Hours later, I went to the Womens Conference (which by the way, was amazing! As horrible as it is to admit, I didn't go expecting it to be amazing, but it was! I left feeling so good and so motivated!) with my mom at my old home ward. Right as it's ending, I'm feeling rather..bloated. So I'm glad it's over. But as I'm leaving, people that I haven't seen in forever start coming up to me. It hit me so fast, I really don't know what happened. But I wanted to talk to them and kept telling myself it would be okay. As I'm walking with an old young women's leader, one just rips out of me, uncontrollably. I just talked louder, praying she didn't hear. I wait... she didn't notice, woo hoo! Disaster averted. Then we stop and turn around, and her husband is right behind us!! You have no idea how hard it was to fight the urge to laugh as he looked at me uncomfortably. I left soon after and let's just say I hit the lou asap. I'm pretty sure 1/3 of your daily fiber is enough to be 2 days worth of fiber.

For those of you grossed out by bodily function stuff, I'm sorry if this was too personal. Working in healthcare makes you pretty open about it and makes you think it's funny.

TV Fast

The week before school started this semester, Tanner decided he wasn't being productive enough, and the tv was mostly to blame. So, I arrived home to find the tv gone and shoved in our bedroom closet. On our family board was a calendar for a three week tv fast. It went pretty well, we did get it out to watch two movies, but it's amazing how much more time you have. And I really don't miss all the crappy tv I used to watch just because it was on. I know there are good shows out there, but the world still goes on if I don't watch them (except I did cave and watch The Office premier on Hulu, I love that show!). It worked out so well, the tv is still in our closet. I love having so much more time and the extra time with Tanner. Huzzah for tv free life!*

*This post is not meant to bash on tv watchers, I am one myself, just journaling about our own experience without it.

Just hear those sleigh bells ring-a-ling.....

At the beginning of July, Tanner one day yelled out excitedly, "It's almost Christmas!!!!" He's been saying it ever since, and won't stop talking about it. Every time we go to my parent's house, he asks my little sisters, "aren't you excited for Christmas?" I married the man whose family gave him the nickname 'Christmas Boy.' It's quite contagious really, and his unbridled enthusiasm has finally rubbed off on me. The other day, I found myself singing Christmas carols in the car on my way to clinical. I love Christmas! The lights at temple square, the snow on the mountains, drinking hot chocolate and snuggling, being with family and loved ones, watching 'It's a Wonderful Life,' and remembering the Savior and feeling the Spirit everywhere you go. Despite the stress of driving in the snow and Christmas shopping, it really is a wonderful time of the year. Aren't you excited too??

This is the face Tanner makes when he talks about Christmas almost being here..he's such a cute hubs. I can't wait till we have wee lil' ones.

Cheap Cleaning

A few months ago, our ward had a lesson on money saving tips. One of them was to save money on cleaning supplies by using cleaning 'recipes' instead. Needless to say, I was definitely skeptical that they would really leave our house clean. But as our cleaning supplies were running low, I decided, what the heck, I'll try it. I have to say: it works! The main one I really use is vinegar and baking soda diluted in water, I've been using it for months now and haven't had to buy any counter or floor cleaners. They're my favorite in the kitchen because they actually clean old food off the floors and counters better than the clorox stuff I used to use. They don't leave me coughing and gagging if I accidentally inhale near it, and it really doesn't make the house smell like vinegar either. If it does, it's very faint, and fades away fast. And best of all, they're so cheap!! Probably not so exciting for most people, but we're poor so I found this exciting and thought I'd share the wealth!

It's soooo hot

Our apartment is roasting today. As I sat on the couch in front of the fan, I wondered: Why did Heavenly Father have to make me so that I get so sweaty when it's hot? And then I remember. It's so I don't overheat and pass out or die. Also, it makes me cooler, with the unfortunate side effect of stinkiness, but worth it nonetheless. So, today I found a reason to be grateful for being sweaty. Next time you're roasting hot, be grateful for those sweat glands.
